Accumulators (Accas) Explained
Published 8 Jun 2026
Accumulators combine several bets into one for big potential returns — and longer odds. Here is the maths.
An accumulator (or "acca") combines several selections into a single bet. The odds multiply together, so returns grow fast — but every leg must win or the whole bet loses.
The maths
Four selections at odds of 2.0 each give 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 16.0. A £10 stake returns £160. Miss one leg and you get nothing.
The trade-off
Accas are popular because small stakes can return big sums. The catch: combining selections multiplies the bookmaker's margin too, so the longer the acca, the worse the value and the lower your real chance of winning.
Sensible acca habits
- Keep the number of legs modest — each one cuts your odds of success.
- Avoid correlated long-shots stacked for a "dream" payout.
- Treat accas as fun, not a strategy; for an edge-based approach, see value betting.
