Asian Handicap Explained

Published 8 Jun 2026

Asian handicaps give one team a head start to even out a mismatch. Here is how the lines work.

Asian handicaps give one team a virtual head start (or deficit) in goals, levelling a mismatch and removing the draw for two cleaner outcomes.

Reading the lines

  • -1 favourite: they must win by 2+ for your bet to win; win by exactly 1 and it loses.
  • +1 underdog: they win if the team wins, draws, or loses by exactly 1.
  • 0.0 is the same as Draw No Bet.

Quarter lines

Lines like -0.75 or +0.25 split your stake across two handicaps. Example at -0.75: win by 2+ wins fully; win by exactly 1 wins half and pushes half; draw or loss loses. Quarter lines often hold the best value because they price favourites precisely. Pair them with xG to judge whether a favourite is good enough to give the goals.
