De Zerbi hails Spurs' £380m summer spree as "bombas" ahead of Newcastle test

Spurs have invested heavily in their rebuild following a desperate end to the 2025–26 season, and De Zerbi's enthusiasm is evident. Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Saturday's Newcastle visit, the Italian manager used the term "bomba" — social media slang for major or unexpected news — to characterise his new arrivals.

"In my vocabulary 'bomba' is a great player," he explained, underlining his satisfaction with the calibre of additions. De Zerbi credited the players' willingness to join the project, emphasising that motivation and ambition were crucial to success in the modern game.

The manager orchestrated the dramatic rescue mission that kept Spurs up, culminating in a final-day victory over Everton. That effort clearly resonated with potential signings, with some praising De Zerbi's persuasive phone calls as instrumental in their decisions to move to north London.

Yet integration remains a work in progress. Spurs' opening weekend collapse at Brentford exposed defensive vulnerabilities, though De Zerbi believes the squad's quality will emerge once cohesion improves. "The patience is to find the connection, the balance between the players," he said, according to Sky Sports.

Newcastle at home offers an early chance to demonstrate progress. De Zerbi knows individual talent alone won't suffice—fight and organisation are non-negotiable in the Premier League.
