Deeney's Team of the Week: Villa Defenders Shine as Bournemouth Stage Dramatic Turnaround

Aston Villa dominated Deeney's honours, with goalkeeper Zion Suzuki praised for his commanding displays and right-back Matty Cash earning a captain's-performance accolade for neutralising opposition threat down the flank.

Bournemouth's remarkable week—beating Sunderland, AC Milan and Manchester United across competitions whilst maintaining a clean sheet—saw multiple players recognised. Marcus Tavernier featured as the attacking midfielder, having registered goals in that sequence, whilst left-back Adrien Truffert earned inclusion for combining assists with defensive solidity. Winger Rayan also featured after a powerful showing against United.

Beyond those standouts, Deeney selected James Hill of Bournemouth and Ezri Konsa of Arsenal as centre-backs, commending their functional excellence rather than theatrics. Shea Charles of Fulham made the cut after impressive recent form since arriving from Southampton, whilst Newcastle's Nico Gonzalez impressed as a game-controlling presence. Mathys Tel of Tottenham rounded out the squad following his Chelsea display, showcasing the pace and power that attracted the club.

According to BBC Sport, Deeney's selections reflected both defensive stability and attacking momentum, with particular emphasis on players delivering consistent, unglamorous excellence rather than headline-grabbing moments.
