Guimaraes has signed a four-year deal plus a one-year option at the Gunners, joining with the no. 39 shirt. The midfielder told Arsenal he wanted to leave Newcastle earlier this summer, and the Gunners' opening bid was rejected before the two clubs agreed the fee.
According to Sky Sports, the deal represents one of the top-ten highest transfer fees ever received for a player aged 28 or over, and a record for his age and position combined.
Addressing his new club, Guimaraes said: "I'm glad for the opportunity. Since the first time I spoke to [Andrea] Berta and Mikel Arteta, I was excited. I just felt inside of me that I need a new challenge in my life."
Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta praised the recruit's leadership qualities and versatility. "Bruno can play as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player. He combines quality with quantity, and has provided goals and assists for his team every year," Berta said.
At Newcastle, Guimaraes made 195 appearances since joining from Lyon in 2022 for £40m, scoring 31 goals and winning the Carabao Cup. His departure adds to a punishing summer for the Magpies, with more than £240m in player sales, including Anthony Gordon to Barcelona (£69.3m) and Sandro Tonali to Spurs (£100m).
Betting angle
Arsenal's upgrade in midfield quality might justify shorter odds in top-four and silverware markets, though Guimaraes' age warrants caution on decade-long form bets.
