Pedro Bags Hat-Trick, Alonso's Chelsea Wins 6-4 in Wild Opener Against Western Sydney

Alonso, the new gaffer, trotted out a laboratory experiment. Included 17-year-old Dastan Satpaev, who, bless his heart, actually scored inside six minutes. Still, the kids were about as stable as a house of cards in a hurricane. Chelsea fell behind *three* times to some A-League nobodies. Only a proper second-half onslaught, Alonso's cavalry charge, finally turned the screw.

Plenty of attack, mind you. Early doors, Chelsea showed flashes of what Alonso wants at Stamford Bridge. Dario Essugo and Jamie Gittens? Both scored some nice goals once they got on. Gittens even squared it at 3-3, just two minutes after he came on. Then, because this is Chelsea pre-season, young Reggie Watson handed Western Sydney the ball on a silver platter. They took the lead again. Ten minutes left. Utter farce.

And then: Joao Pedro. Came off the bench. Obliterated the hosts. Three goals in nine minutes, per Sky Sports. First, a cool finish from inside the box. Then, a simple tap-in after a Cole Palmer setup. Finally, a corner-kick conversion. Hat-trick. Game over.

Look, it's pre-season. Don't get carried away. Stars are on holiday. The pitch was a cow pasture. They're still messing with the backline. All excuses. But the attacking fire? That was clear. Alonso kicks off the real show against Tottenham on 1 August. Still in Sydney.
