PSG vs. Villa Super Cup: Rematch, But Only One Side's Laughing

Nine goals. That's what their last European clash served up. A proper barnburner. It pushed both sides to their limits, sure, but only one truly kicked on. PSG, after nearly getting turfed out at Villa Park, didn't just 'regroup'. They went on a rampage. Knocked out Arsenal, then absolutely carved up Inter Milan in the final. May 2025. Champions League winners. Ousmane Dembele? He ended up with a Ballon d'Or that year. Coincidence? Probably not.

Since then? PSG's trophy cabinet keeps bulging. Two Ligue 1 titles, the French Cup, a couple of Super Cups, and, just for good measure, another Champions League last season. The squad? Barely a dent. Dembele's still there, pulling the strings up top with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue. And that midfield of Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, and Joao Neves? Pure class. Stone cold killers. Sky Sports has the receipts, if you're into that sort of thing.

Luis Enrique's defence is rock solid. Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes. Matvey Safonov between the sticks. And let's not forget the benchwarmers who could start anywhere else, like Bradley Barcola. Oh, and here's a kicker: Lucas Digne, a Villa cult hero, decided to rejoin Paris just days before this very game. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound. PSG? They're a machine. A well-oiled, trophy-hoarding machine. Settled, yes. Formidable, absolutely.

Villa, meanwhile? They've got problems. Big ones. This summer has been nothing but instability. Emery's lot are rebuilding, scrambling for a coherent setup ahead of Wednesday. PSG just built on what they had. Villa got torn down. The gap since April 2025 isn't just 'stark.' It's a chasm.
