Ronaldo Accepts Punishment Over Portugal Exit, Blames Jesus for Broken Promises

The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward departed Portugal's camp last week after being left on the bench against Norway, despite an earlier agreement with Jesus that he would miss both the Norway and Denmark matches to manage his fitness. According to the BBC, Ronaldo claimed the coach told him on matchday that he would play for 30 minutes, then failed to bring him on.

In a lengthy statement, Ronaldo said Jesus later agreed to clarify the situation publicly but instead delivered remarks that contradicted their private discussion. He described this as the second breach of trust and cited Jesus's "high and mighty attitude" during the news conference as his reason for leaving.

The Al-Nassr captain remains Portugal's all-time appearance and goal record holder with 146 goals in 234 games. He helped Portugal win Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles.

Ronaldo told the Portuguese Football Federation that it "must assess and punish" his actions without reduction. He stopped short of retirement, saying he would return to the squad after his suspension ends, provided he remained fit and playing regularly at club level.

Jesus, 72, previously managed Ronaldo at Al-Nassr and had been appointed as Portugal's coach. The federation has not yet responded to the row.
