Savio steals show on debut as Spurs thrash Charlton

The Brazilian arrived from Manchester City for £85m on Tuesday and wasted little time justifying the investment. Introduced as a second-half substitute in the 71st minute, Savio cut inside from the right flank and fired past Tiernan Brooks with a composed finish just 11 minutes later.

That wasn't the end of his impact. Three minutes after his goal, he was involved again when his effort deflected off Ben Davies to extend Spurs' lead further.

Roberto De Zerbi fielded a strong side at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the club's disappointing Premier League opener against Brentford. Mikey Moore opened the scoring with a breakthrough effort, before Dominic Solanke doubled the advantage. Kevin Danso headed in a third after the hour mark.

Charlton offered little resistance against their Premier League opposition, though Lloyd Jones managed a consolation header late on. The scoreline was never in doubt once Savio arrived on the pitch.

According to Sky Sports, the forward's immediate impact has given supporters genuine excitement about his arrival. His direct running and left-footed shooting sparked the home crowd into life whenever he received possession. Spurs now face Liverpool at Anfield in the third round, according to the report.
